When the action is furious or I need the specialised low-light capabilities of digital I put my F3 and F6 to one side and grab my D500 or D6. Typical subjects are birds, motor racing, outdoor events, dark museums or simply for exploring my range of film-era lenses.

My favourite lenses are the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8, Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 and the Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6.

Older lenses dating back to AI-S manual focus designs from 1982 work perfectly, with the benefit of DxO Photolab profiles for superior noise and aberration corrections. I can get a clean modern look with small classic lenses.

In most cases I share lenses between film and digital, but the high frame rates of the D500 and D6 need electronic aperture activation for stable exposures. My Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E and Tamron 70-200 f/2.8G2 only work on recent digital bodies.

I looked carefully at a Nikon Z9 but since I never take videos and wanted broader lens compatibility (including AF-D designs) I chose the D6 as the better camera for me.
