Gregory Lewis - Samantha 2014

A new granddaughter was the reason for a trip to Melbourne. Tried BW400CN rated at ISO 250 in the F90x with the Voigtlander 40mm but the very low light levels really needed a VR lens. 1/15 shutter speed meant a few lost shots. In hindsight a better solution would have been BW400CN in a VR capable camera.

Portra 800 with +0.5 compensation in the N75 with the Sigma 24-105mm gave sharper results. The film coped with a horrid mix of window light, murky fluorescents and coloured walls. Images were colour corrected in DxO. Some desaturation was also needed - this film is quite vibrant.

A perfect day at Rye made the beach an easy choice. With plenty of light it was Ektar 100, N75 and a long zoom. Sun, sand then fish 'n' chips under the trees with more grandchildren!

A change of film to Portra 800. Works brilliantly in blazing Australian sun with harsh shadows. Film technology has continued to make progress in a digital world.

Final stop was Superhero Central. It's always a surprise to see who will be home. Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Captain America? Today it was Buzz Lightyear and Ironman who offered us coffee. Superhero Junior lost interest after we finished the home-made biscuits.

Still using Portra 800 here - better than expected outdoors, brilliant indoors.
