Gregory Lewis - Mornington Steam Ride

With an afternoon spare before visiting relatives I took a ride from Moorooduc to Mornington behind a 1941 Victorian K Class loco.

All photos were taken on a Nikon N75 with Portra 800 film at EI 400 through a Sigma 24-105mm zoom. Some images were converted to B&W using DxO software.

The carriages are in excellent condition, complete with many photos of earlier days on the Baxter to Mornington line.

There is no station building at the Mornington end which terminates a few kilometres from the CBD. Photo opportunities are excellent as the loco runs around the train for the return trip.

Mornington is a bayside suburb with a beach and marina making the walk from the train worthwhile. In hindsight though it would have been better to take the return train to Moorooduc then drive to Mornington.

The return walk was all uphill but I arrived in time to meet the last train. There was plenty of time for photos at the Mornington end and again at the Moorooduc terminus.
