Gregory Lewis - Eugowra to Cowra

After visiting The Parkes Dish we travelled home via some of the prettiest towns in central NSW. Again I used a Nikon F6, Tamron 15-30mm, 45mm and 90mm lenses, with Portra 400 at E.I. 250. All lenses have Vibration Control, so I was confident of sharp handheld shots.

Eugowra is a town you simply cannot drive through without pausing to view the many outstanding murals that illuminate the streets.

Canowindra is the location of one of the most valuable and revealing discoveries in the fossil record of Australia. The Age of Fishes Museum houses marine fossils from the Devonian Period, over 350 million years ago.

The Vibration Control of the Tamron lenses came in useful here with these shots taken between 1/8 and 1/4 of a second.

Cowra has two important tourist destinations that I was keen to see, the Japanene Gardens and the Railway Museum.

The Japanese Gardens are truly inspiring — tranquil, colourful and beautifully designed for contemplative walks.

Photo opportunities abound. I had the right gear for the landscape shots but didn’t count on the many flying ducks that would have made for some excellent nature images.

The guide at the Cowra Railway Heritage Centre was endlessly knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic about the centre’s plans to reconnect the museum to the main line for tourist running. I hope to be one of the first passengers!
