THE AUSTRALIAN COMPOSERS on this recordings have all contributed significant works to the flute and guitar repertoire.

This exceptional recording will provide music lovers with fresh insights into music which is genuinely reflective of the Australian experience—lyrical, vibrant and, at times, challenging!

The performers

JANE RAYNER, a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, has performed extensively in solo, chamber and orchestral settings, as well as flute and guitar duos.

Raised in Central West New South Wales, Jane possesses an affinity for the Australian landscape. She performs regularly in flute and string ensembles and has served as Principal Flute in the Murray Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra and the Waverley Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2004, Jane was invited by Colin Brumby to record his work Gardens of the Villa Taranto, the title track of his CD, with guitarist, Peter Lynch. Jane and Peter’s performances have since been broadcast nationally in Australia on ABC Classic FM and live on ABC Radio National.

Jane, whose teachers have included Paul Curtis and Suzy Powell, has herself achieved considerable success as a teacher having taught flute extensively at Murray Conservatorium in Albury and at numerous schools to all ages and at all levels, from 5 year olds to seniors, beginners to Diploma level. She enjoys the balance of performance and teaching.

Jane Rayner and Peter Lynch

PETER LYNCH is a graduate of the Canberra School of Music (performance), Monash University (musicology) and The University of Melbourne (educational administration).

He was first attracted to the guitar through the phenomenon that was ‘The Beatles’. Initially, he studied in Geelong with Bernard Stahl and then in Melbourne with Sadie Bishop and Susan Ellis. He continued his studies at the Canberra School of Music with Sadie Bishop, graduating in 1974 and then in London, studying with John Mills, John Duarte and Julian Byzantine.

An examiner for the Australian Music Examinations Board since 1976, he has examined and adjudicated throughout Victoria and New South Wales, and as far afield as Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and New Zealand.

In addition to several commercially released recordings and many ABC studio recordings and broadcasts, Peter has given solo and ensemble recitals at numerous festivals including Melbourne International Festival of Organ and Harpsichord, Castlemaine State Festival, Music in the Round, Melbourne International Guitar Festival and Darwin International Guitar Festival.

Peter Lynch was for many years a lecturer in guitar at the Victorian College of the Arts and The University of Melbourne and was, from 1993 to 1998, Academic Co-ordinator at the Melba Memorial Conservatorium. He served as Director of Murray Conservatorium in Albury from 1999 to 2008.

In 2009, he relocated to Tasmania where he is now pursuing his research interests, performance opportunities, examining, and teaching both privately and at the Conservatorium of Music.
